In the centre of Verden, there stands, tall and majestic, the Dom of St. Maria und Cecilia. This church is more than a thousand years old. Construction began on this church in 850 AD.
In this room (shown above) each tile was dedicated to a soldier who had fallen in battle during the First and Second World Wars.
The nave of the Dom. Walking through this cathedral made me imagine what it must have been like back in the 12th century. How many brave young men came to this cathedral to pledge their vows to God and to the Mother Mary to defend the Kingdom of Jerusalem in the Holy Land?
Taking a stroll through the cloisters. The cloisters are enclosed, rectangular walkways, attached to the cathedral, that were built around or alongside a garden. This cloister was strait and short and it was built alongside a garden.
